Bronze sculpture by Mardini, depicting Franco Cortesein a 6CM Maserati on the bricked banking at Avusrennen. 1937 saw the first appearance of the Scuderia Ambrosiana Maserati 6CM. It raced fast and furiously on the new bricked, banked turns at Avus. The race was won by Charlie Martin in an ERA; the Maseratis took 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th positions. Enrico Plate driving his 6CM Maserati finished in second place, the fastest of the Maserati team on that day. This was a landmark achievement as the Maseratis shared the bill with Grand Prix cars such as Mercedes and Auto Unions, which dominated their day.
